On Saturday, May 25, 2013 (Memorial Day Weekend), Children Today will host its 5th Annual Run/Walk Fundraiser. The event, consisting of a 5k and a 10k, will take place at Marina Green Park in Downtown Long Beach (off Shoreline Drive on the Beach Bike Path). Last year, over 1,000 people participated in our 4th annual Run-Walk fundraiser, helping to raise more than $65,000 for Children Today's Play House programs. All participants will receive a free t-shirt, goodie bag, and access to a fun party with all your friends! This year we hope to increase our participation and raise $100,000. To accomplish these big goals we need your help. Whether you run the race, become a volunteer, or join in on the fundraising, each person can make a difference. Don't miss out on this fun event!

This Memorial Day, May 27th, New Directions and the West LA Chamber of Commerce will host the 3rd annual Walk for Warriors 5K Run/Walk. Walk for Warriors will be located on the beautiful Veterans Affairs Campus in the Brentwood community, and will be a day filled with family fun and entertainment for all ages. All proceeds will benefit military veterans that have struggled to make the transition from service.

Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27, 2013-Started in 1958, The Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce put on the first Garden Grove Strawberry Festival as a way to bring together the east and west sides of Garden Grove. The festival became and has always been a charitable event benefiting local organizations. In the past 50 years over $4.5 million has been donated to hundreds of non-profits. On the festival grounds visitors can enjoy carnival rides, parades, contests, celebrity appearances and stroll rows of booths and purchase a wide array of strawberry treats, fresh strawberries, other food and merchandise.

For 25 years, our supporters have been “showing the love” by joining the Long Beach AIDS Walk event, to raise much-needed funds for client services and HIV prevention education for the servicing agencies from Manhattan Beach to Long Beach. We are grateful for the support over the 24 years to provide funding to end new HIV infections. This year as we celebrate the 25th Silver Anniversary of AIDS Walk and all the new events, we encourage you to dig through your closets and wear the t-shirts from 24 years of the Walk. The Foundation is a social change agent that believes in inspiring and collaborating with other community organizations to prevent the spread of HIV through education; & provide support for those impacted by HIV/AIDS.

May 31st- June 2nd: SummerFest is the largest community event in North Orange County, drawing over 25,000 people with spectacular rides, delicious food and great live entertainment. The food, amusement rides, games and great live entertainment have made this event on-of-a-kind. Come join the fun as the tradition continues. Admission to SummerFest including concerts is always free. There is no reserved concert seating, seats are first come, first served. For over 25 years, SummerFest has offered major entertainment headliners. Previous years' artists include Peter Frampton, Rick Springfield, Berlin, Earth Wind and Fire to name a few.

The Third Annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser is set for Sunday, June 2, any time between 12:30 – 3:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 134 N. Kenwood Street, Glendale. The event will benefit Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley (FP-ESFV) in their efforts to provide safe shelter, meals and support to homeless families. The Empty Bowl premise is simple: independent potters, arts associations and other groups within the community create handcrafted ceramic bowls. Guests who purchase adult tickets are entitled to a one-of-a-kind bowl, in which is served a simple meal of soup with bread and dessert donated by area restaurants. They take their selected bowl home with them as a symbol of the hunger and uncertainty homeless families face daily. Last year, hundreds of area residents attended the memorable event.

1pm-4pm: A community art show on June 2nd, 2013. Proceeds from this event directly support CLARE’s mission of providing effective and compassionate treatment, recovery, and prevention services for alcohol and substance abuse to individuals, families, and the community. In addition, ART for CLARE helps raise awareness about substance abuse in the Los Angeles community and diminish the stigma surrounding addiction.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Corporate Sponsors and Teams, and thousands of Angelenos will gather for this event, the purpose of which is to honor the firefighters who risk their lives to serve and protect us, and to raise funds for the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association’s Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen’s Fund, a valuable 501(c)(3) organization. Hope for Firefighters features live music, delicious meals prepared by over 25 different fire stations throughout the City, fire apparatus and demonstrations, LAFD gift merchandise booths, raffle drawings, prizes, trophies and exciting Firefighter “Muster” games where more than twenty sponsored teams will compete for trophies & prizes in everything from bucket brigade, firefighter suit-up to an old fashioned hose pull contest. Funds are raised through sponsorship, meal ticket sales, raffle items and the sale of LAFD merchandise through the Dalmatians Store.

The 26th Annual Palos Verdes Street Fair & Music Festival, presented by DCH Toyota of Torrance and produced by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, takes place Sat, June 8 from 10am-10pm and Sun, June 9 from 10am-9pm. Located in Rolling Hills Estates, the Fair is the biggest event on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The Fair has more than 200 premium arts & crafts booths, carnival rides for all ages, continuous live entertainment on 2 stages with Tribute bands bringing back the sounds of Pop, Blues, Jazz, Motown & Rock n’ Roll. An International Food Court & Craft Beer/Wine Garden, a Community Plaza featuring fair-style food competitions, the Top Dogs Dog Show, and free children’s petting zoo and pony rides promises to be loads of fun for everyone. The City Impact 3rd Annual Ventura Beachfront Half Marathon and 5K will be held on Saturday, June 15th at the Ventura Pier. The half marathon and 5K will begin on the north side of the Ventura Pier. The half marathon runs along the oceanfront promenade and extends along the Pacific Coast Highway creating a flat and scenic course. The 5K runs out and back along the oceanfront promenade.

June 15th-16th: With approximately 600 participating visual artists from all over Southern California, The PASADENA CHALK FESTIVAL has grown to become the largest street painting festival in the world. In 2010 we broke the Guiness Book of World Records for largest display of Chalk Art at one time in one place. The past year’s 20th anniversary event attracted a crowd of 120,000 to Paseo Colorado in Pasadena’s civic center over the course of the two-day weekend (Father’s Day). Chalk also features a wide range of world music and family art making opportunities. It’s always free-of-charge to the public.

On June 29th, 2013 the community will gather in Los Angeles for the Take Steps Walk benefitting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). The 4th of July 5K Run/Community Walk and Firecracker Dash celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The race takes place on America's birthday at 8 a.m. at Riviera Village in Redondo Beach, CA. The race has grown from humble beginnings of a few hundred runners to one of the largest races here in Southern California, with 4,000 runners expected for the start of the race.

Entries are now officially open for the 20th annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Community Walk, and Firecracker 5K in Redondo Beach. The 4th of July 5K Run/Community Walk and Firecracker Dash will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year with an expanded Costume Contest. There will be a Parade of the previous 20 years men’s and women’s 5K winners. All runners who have run all 20 editions of the event will be recognized on stage with a special ceremony. The race takes place on July 4th at 8 a.m., starting and finishing in the Riviera Village in Redondo Beach, CA. The race has grown to one of the largest races here in Southern California, with 4,500 runners expected for the start of the race.

With the 1st annual Haddick’s Tow Hot Rod Show generating a great buzz and being called one of the best one day car shows in SoCal we are aiming to make this year’s show ever grander, with the goal being to raise twice as much for the YAL. That goal starts with sponsorship and generous donations from businesses and organizations. Proceeds benefit Y.A.L.
