How many times did PAUL McCARTNEY perform at the now-demolished Shea Stadium in New York?

ANSWER
Sir Paul performed three times at Shea Stadium. The Beatles opened their third U.S. tour with an August 15th, 1965 show at Shea that was the first-ever at a major stadium. The concert attracted a then-record crowd of 55,600 with promoter Sid Bernstein hailing the $304,000 in gate receipts as "the greatest gross ever in the history of show business." These days bands earn more than that in merchandise sales. The Beatles performed only 12 songs that night, the screaming crowd making it impossible for the band or anyone else to actually hear what they were playing. A documentary titled "The Beatles at Shea Stadium," featuring overdubs recorded by the band in London in January 1966, aired that year in the U.S. on ABC.

The Beatles returned to Shea for a second show on August 23rd, 1966. As it turned out, they played only three more live concerts. The second-to-last took place at Dodger Stadium on August 28th, with the Fab Four's final show taking place August 29th at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

Paul McCartney's third and final appearance at Shea Stadium came during at the final concert held at the venue, Billy Joel's show on July 18th, 2008. McCartney made a guest appearance, closing the show with a rendition of "Let It Be."

This week's winner is BRIAN GROSS of Marina del Rey. He gets a copy of "Good Evening New York City," a two-CD, one-DVD set recording during Paul's three-night christening of New York's Citi Field stadium (the replacement for Shea Stadium) in July 2009. It features 33 selections from his Beatles, Wings and solo careers.
